I did my first wedding cake this weekend! I'm really happy with the way it turned out but it was very frustrating especially with everything I've got going on right now. Just thought I'd share it with you all.... (I'm proud. )

I did this one for free. It was for a family member so I did it for the cost of supplies as my gift to them. Normally I would get about $400.00 for a cake like that.

I've always used fresh icing flowers out of buttercream, but a girlfriend of mine uses royal icing and makes the flowers about a week ahead of time and just places them on there when she's finished icing and decorating.

Yes, I used royal icing for all of the little pink flowers. I didn't do them a week ahead of time though, just a day or two. I normally would have used buttercream for them because it would have been faster, but I used royal because I wanted the cluster of flowers look for the garland when meant I had to stack a bunch on top of each other. I was worried that the buttercream wouldn't give me the look I was going for.
